What is sync licensing, and how does it work?
Sync licensing is the process of placing music in TV shows, films, ads, video games, and other media. When your music is licensed, you get paid upfront (sync fee) and can also earn backend royalties if the placement airs on TV.

How do I know if my music is sync-ready?
Sync-ready music is professionally mixed and mastered, has no uncleared samples, and has instrumental versions available. You also need to own or control 100% of both the publishing and master rights or have the ability to clear them quickly.

Do I need to register my music with a PRO (Performing Rights Organization)?
Yes! If you want to collect performance royalties from placements, register your songs with a PRO like ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC in the U.S. If you're outside the U.S., register with your country’s PRO.

What’s the difference between exclusive and non-exclusive sync deals?

    • Exclusive means you sign over your music to one company, and they control all sync placements.

    • Non-exclusive allows you to work with multiple sync agencies or libraries.

At CMN, we focus on curated collaborations that ensure fair deals for indie artists.

How do I get my music placed in TV, film, and ads?
Building relationships with music supervisors, sync agencies, and licensing reps is key. CMN bridges the gap by curating high-quality music and directly connecting it to music decision-makers.

Can I submit music to CMN?
Yes! We’re always looking for authentic, high-quality music. Visit our Submission Page to apply. * We will need to build a general submission page for indie creators to submit their music to CMN. The current submission page is for existing CMN collaborators to submit MasterPack and stems.

What types of music are in high demand for sync?
Music with clear emotions, strong dynamics, and cinematic appeal tends to do well. Right now, there’s a demand for:

    •Uplifting anthems

    •Dark and moody cinematic pieces

•Modern soul, indie pop, and hip-hop

    •Underscore and ambient textures

How do I get paid from sync placements?
You can earn:

    • Sync fees (paid upfront for the use of your song)

    • Performance royalties (when the placement airs on TV)

    • Mechanical royalties (from streaming services if placed in digital content)

Do I need a publishing deal to get sync placements?
No, but a strong network and strategy are essential. CMN helps indie artists land syncs without giving up their publishing rights unfairly.

Should I create custom music for sync?
Absolutely! Custom music is highly valuable in advertising and brand campaigns. CMN helps indie artists connect with brands and create music tailored to specific projects.
